Year 3 have been learning how to write descriptively. We have described a brave Roman solider. We also watched a video clip called 'Veni Vidi Vici' which we used to base our scripts on. Take a look.
Following on from this, we have spend time learning how to write formal and informal letters. Here are a few examples of our work.
This term we have explored many aspects of the Romans and managed to answer lots of our questions. Who were the Romans? When did they invade Britain? Who led the Romans? etc. However our BIG question was 'What did the Romans do for us?'
We have been incredibly hard in mathematics. So far we have been learning how to count to 12 in Roman Numerals, multiply, divide, add and subtract using a column method. We have been exploring these new skills through lots of problem solving and reasoning questions. More recently we have just finished our measures unit of work and are now we are looking forward to getting our teeth into fractions.
Earlier in the term we visited Segedunem. This gave us a fantastic idea for our DT project. We were tasked with the job of designing and building a toy catapult to sell in their shop.
This term Year 3 have been learning how to write a story, a non- chronological report and a poem based on 'The Owl and the Pussy Cat'. We are now currently learning how to write instructions. Be aware Year 3 now know how to trap a deadly dragon.

We love to read in Year 3! We enjoy reading a range of genres and have had lots of reading opportunities. We have visited the White Swan Centre and recently met an author.
We have been working extremely hard in maths this term. So far we have covered partitioning, addition and subtraction. Soon we will be moving onto multiplication and division. We have enjoyed working individually, as a small group and as a class solving challenging problems. Take at look at some of our reasoning and problem solving challenges.
We have explored the Old Stone Age and now we are exploring the New Stone Age We have made jewellery from clay, learned about Skara Brae and Star Carr. Through geography we are learning about our local area.
