Welcome to Y5CS!
Since the beginning of the year we have been developing our knowledge of Multiplication and Division, Addition and Subtraction, Statistics and Place Value through a wide range of fluency, reasoning and problem solving activities. We learn these strategies using a CPA approach, developing our skills using Concrete, Pictorial and Abstract Methods:
Who has the stronger community? Spartans or Athenions?
This term we are looking at Greek Myths and the mythical creatures that create problems for our Greek heroes along the way. How did Theseus fare against the terrifying Minotaur? How did Perseus defeat the evil Medusa?
We are going to look at life in Ancient Greece and considering the differences between Sparta and Athens. We are prepared to be amazed to discover how different the two places were! We will be looking at different aspects of Ancient Greek life and using our Greek myths to inspire some amazing art.
We are set to begin our hard work crafting our own Greek myths, including some truly ferocious mythical creatures. How will our heroes cope when they come face to face with these beasts?

So far this year we have studied about the Victorians and discovered lots about the local heritage of the Killingworth area in Topic.
We were also visited by Technology Tom and created our own Collieries using pulleys and winding mechanisms.
In PE, we have been working with NUFC Foundation looking at Attacking and Defending principles as well as netball and football.
In French, we have studied sport and started to apply our knowledge into sentences.
