Year 5 ML

Our new topic is the Ancient Greeks!

We are especially looking at our question : Who had the stronger community...Spartans or Athenians?

Throughout this term we will be looking at the communities in detail, thinking about their differences and similarities.

We had a visit from Technology Tom! We created our very own coal colliery, with working mechanisms!

Towards the end of the term, for Art's Week, we looked at the poem the Highway Man.

We created horse puppets to match the poem!

This term we were lucky enough to visit Beamish!

The children had so much fun, exploring a pit town!

In September, we started to read Street Child! The children were so interested in Jim's life and how different his life was to our lives now!

We concentrated on description of characters in English, as well as "show don't tell" feelings, which we used to express and indicate emotion, without telling the reader how the character feels.

A lot of our class this term have finished our reading scheme! Which means they are a free reader!

Miss Lewis has been so impressed with how we have settled into year five!

Autumn 1 spellings

In English, the children have been writing instructions. They have created lovely Mayan inspired mirrors that are colourful and vibrant to write instructions of how to create the mirrors!
Our year five assembly was wonderful! The performance had a BBC news theme, the children spent a long time practicing songs, lines and actions! Well done year five!
In science we have been working on our new topic- The Circle of Life. We have been studying our very own sprouting bean! Some of the children had bean stalks climbing up the window! We have also been studying the life cycle of tadpoles and butterflies!
Y5ML have been working very hard- using a paper mache technique to create beautiful Mayan inspired masks!
This term we have been concentrating on a recent BBC report, which reveals the recent ruins found under the Guatamalan jungle! Year five will be discovering who might have lived there, using sources to delve into the deepest, darkest jungle to discover who might of lived there!

A wonderful example of a beast creation in English!

Useful for Christmas! A list of fantastic texts that are vocabulary rich, for the children to read!

In Art- last term we were lucky enough to have a parent helper to help us create and design William Morris inspired ties!

In English- using our bodies to show our feelings! (A bit like charades!)

Y5ML Maths are using resources to help them understand cubed and prime numbers!

This term, Year 5ML has started their new topic of the Ancient Greeks! We will be focusing on mythical beasts!

In English the children have been using Talk 4 Writing to recite the story of Theseus and the Minotaur! We are now focusing on a character description of their own mythical beast!

In Maths the children are solving multiplication and division problems. We have been using different ways of discovering ways of trying to solve problems!

Our new topic web! Which Mythical Beast is the Most Monstrous?!
