Welcome to Y2CS
Significant Women
Our topic this term is 'Significant Women'. This is a History based topic. We will be looking at Grace Darling, Florence Nightingale and Rosa Parks. We will look at how they are views by society and they are similar and different.
Our next topic will be:
Worldwide Weather and Climate
In Maths, we have focused on securing our place value knowledge and investigating different methods to add and subtract 1 and 2 digit numbers. We have been using a Maths Mastery approach to develop the learning and our problem solving skills. Below are some photos and video examples to show one of the methods we used when adding and subtracting numbers, this method is adding/subtracting using a empty number line. We are using this a mastery approach in Maths to embed and create more depth to our learning. We have used what we have learnt towards reasoning and problem solving challenges.
Other Curriculum Areas:
In Science, we are learning all about Materials. We will look at material and their properties thinking about which materials would be used to make certain products.
In PE, we will be working on Skipping and Multi-skills.
In French, we are learning about 'My Family'.
In Computing, we we will be learning how to take photos and discussing what makes a good and bad photograph. We will then move on to creating our own simple animations.
Our Homework:
Each half term, we ask the children to complete a range of activities from their homework grid. These tasks are a mixture of lots of lessons from throughout the curriculum and work is asked to be submitted through Seesaw.
Each week, children are asked to practice 10 spellings for our weekly quizzes on a Friday, these spellings are based on a range of spelling patterns and common exception words from the Year 2 curriculum.
Please see below our current homework grid for Autumn 1 and the Autumn terms spellings.
We update our Twitter page regularly so remember to check Twitter so you can follow what your child gets up to during school.
