Back to School Afternoon
Thank you to all of those who were able to join us for our 'Back to School' parent's afternoon. We had a fantastic afternoon completing our STEM helicopter experiments and getting to know some of our amazing Amberley families.
Reading
In Year 3, we love reading and promote a continued love of reading every day. Children love to choose a book from our class library for free-reading time. Our class reader for this term is currently Flat Stanley by Jeff Brown.
We are looking forward to some of the author visits/ events that we have coming up this year. Parents will be notified of any upcoming dates.
Year 3 loved our first trip to the local library. We enjoyed discussing different genres of books, listening to a book and then choosing our own to take back to school. We also found lots of great books about our current topic, UK Cities and Counties!
Music
This half term we have been enjoying a musical masterclass with Charlotte. We are completing a singing unit which includes a range of songs linked to our current class topics as well as learning music terminology. (We also just love listening to Charlotte play the piano and ukulele!)
Geography
Our first topic this year is 'The United Kingdom - Cities and Counties'. The children have loved exploring the U.K and discussing the country we live in. This topic has opened the floor to some fantastic class discussions given the significant changes to our country we are experiencing.
So far, we learned about cities within the U.K and using an eight point compass. We can also name the capital cities of the U.K and the counties in the North East! We are looking forward to our upcoming field trip at Weetslade, where we will be putting our map and compass skills to the test with some real life challenges.
Maths
We have already delved deep into our maths learning this year! Our first topic is place value, and we have been working hard to cross hundred boundaries by adding two digit numbers. Here is an example of some fantastic work we've already seen.
