Year 3 OC

Welcome to 3OC!

In our class page, you will find links to home learning documents (homework and spellings) as well as links to our topic knowledge organisers. We will also keep you up to date with key events happening within the class and curriculum information.

We have got off to a brilliant start to the school year and are looking forward to the exciting things Year 3 has in store!

Got any ideas for our class page or things you'd like to see? Let Miss Carr know!

Back to School Afternoon

Thank you to all of those who were able to join us for our 'Back to School' parent's afternoon. We had a fantastic afternoon creating a suitcase for Paddington Bear and getting to know some of our amazing Amberley families.

Reading

In Year 3, we love reading and promote a continued love of reading every day. Children love to choose a book from our class library for free-reading time. Our class reader for this term is currently Squirrel and Duck: Mission Improbable, by Tom Percival. We are lucky enough to have an author visit with him very soon to find out more about his books.

Class Reader: Squirrel and Duck: Mission Improbable.

We are looking forward to some of the author visits/ events that we have coming up this year. Parents will be notified of any upcoming dates.

We also love a trip to our local library. We enjoy discussing different genres of books, listening to a book and then choosing our own to take back to school. We also found lots of great books about our current topic!

Art

This half term we have been enjoying creating Cave Art. This is linked to our History topic all about Pre-History and our paintings are inspired by the Stone Age. We will be experimenting with different materials and our Artist Spotlight is Edgar Degas. He was an artist famous for his pastel drawings and oil paintings.

History

Our current topic is 'Pre-History'. The children have loved learning all about life in the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age. Our enquiry question is 'How did Britain change during the Stone Age to the Iron Age.' We have explored our Substantive Concepts including Settlements, Food and Farming, Travel and Exploration and Artefacts.

We will be exploring more in depth at how people evolved during the 3 pre-historic areas and we will be looking at case studies of significant landmarks.

Maths

We have already delved deep into our maths learning this year! Our first topic is place value, and we have been working hard to cross hundred boundaries by adding two digit numbers.

This term we have been learning all about 3-digit numbers. We have thought about the importance of place value, partitioning numbers, adding hundreds, tens and ones to 3-digit numbers and working on plotting numbers on a number line up to 1000.

Remember to check Twitter so you can follow what your child gets up to during school. Follow us at Amberley Year 3

Thank you.
